Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian Curate Community Show at Château La Coste

At Château La Coste, a 600-acre Provençal wine estate and cultural center, the summer program launched with 'Rashid, Sheree, and Friends,' a group exhibition curated by Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian. The show, on view through September 6, 2026, features work by the pair and about 20 contemporaries including Hank Willis Thomas, Sarah Sze, and Lorna Simpson. It occupies three galleries across the property: Galerie Richard Rogers, Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium, and Renzo Piano Pavilion. Johnson presents a solo selection from his 'God Paintings' series and new site-specific bronzes; Hovsepian shows photography and large-scale bronze sculptures she calls 'Pregnant Giacomettis.' The exhibition emphasizes community over theme, reflecting the network of relationships around the artists, who were married for 15 years and have since separated. The opening weekend included an intimate dinner, a vernissage picnic, and a DJ set by Aku Orraca-Tetteh of Florence + the Machine. Attendees included Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Matthew McConaughey, Michael Stipe, and Harrison Barnes. Château La Coste founder Paddy McKillen emphasized the estate's role as a place for artists to return and form long-term partnerships.
