Rana Begum and Webb Yates Erect Pink Fence Sculpture for LFA 2026
Artist Rana Begum and engineer Steve Webb of Webb Yates have installed No.1616 Fence (2026), a hot pink fenced sculpture outside Space House in London, as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2026. The work responds to the festival's theme 'Belonging' but explores not belonging, with Webb noting a 'sinister edge' to the theme. Fabricated with open-access workshop BLOQs and materials lent by Albion Stone, the sculpture uses Portland stone as a base, clamped rather than cut to minimize environmental impact. Begum cites the 'idea of the infinite' as a driving force, pushing engineering limits. The piece is a collaboration with Arnauld Nichols of BLOQs and Sam Kennedy of Commissioned by You. Climate stress tests were conducted for June weather, and the sculpture is designed to be fully disassembled without welding or cutting. It is on view until 30 June 2026.
