Ramo Artist Residency in Abruzzo Reaches 11th Edition

In 2026, Ramo (Ritratto a Mano), one of Italy’s most enduring independent artist residencies, will celebrate its 11th edition. Established in 2014 by Giuseppe Pietroniro and Angelo Bucciacchio, the initiative originated spontaneously in an abandoned convent in Caramanico Terme, Abruzzo, with a dozen participants guided by Stefano Arienti. Since 2015, Giuliana Benassi has taken on the role of supervising curator. The residency has included notable tutors such as Gianni Caravaggio and Valentina Vetturi. Initially open to all, it shifted focus to academy students from the second edition. Emphasizing self-management and creativity, participants work in shared isolation. The 2026 session will feature tutor Luigi Presicce and guest speaker Iginio De Luca at Palazzo Mayer in Fossacesia, with support from Fondazione Itaca. The founders aspire to formalize collaborations with Italian academies to provide credits and financial assistance for students.
