Rajiv Menon Contemporary: Building South Asian Art in LA

In an interview featured on Carla, Rajiv Menon, the founder of Rajiv Menon Contemporary (RMC), shares insights about his gallery. Established in 2023, RMC launched its Hollywood headquarters on Highland Avenue in February 2025, with a mission to showcase South Asian diasporic artists. Over its inaugural year, the gallery organized 12 exhibitions, took part in two international fairs, and held a debut exhibition at Jaipur City Palace in India. Menon, who earned his PhD from New York University, prioritizes cultural significance over commercial success, striving to elevate South Asian art globally. He has placed works in six institutions and nurtures new collectors in Los Angeles. Menon admires various dealers and Indian galleries, while dreaming of acquiring pieces by Lucian Freud and Salman Toor. He promotes accessible connoisseurship, dismissing trend-driven approaches.
