Rahel Oberhummer's 'Still Breathing' at Maison Visinand

Rahel Oberhummer's exhibition titled 'Still Breathing' is set to take place at Espace Culturel Maison Visinand in Montreux, Switzerland, from May 29 to June 28, 2026. Curated by Audrey Beyeler and Noor Diba, the exhibition showcases three pieces: 'Plaine Morte', 'Still Breathing', and 'Sentinels'. These artworks incorporate glass vessels filled with glacial water and ancient air sourced from the Plaine Morte and Rhône glaciers. Dr. Margit Schwikowski from the Paul Scherrer Institut contributed ice core samples for this project. The installation addresses themes of preservation, climate change, and the inherent properties of ice. 'Plaine Morte' includes 268 borosilicate glass bubbles with meltwater, while 'Still Breathing' encases ancient air in lens-shaped glass on anthracite coal, and 'Sentinels' features twisted glass rods illuminated by amber light, rising from Rhône sand. The exhibition prompts reflection on the implications of re-containment of what glaciers have preserved.
