Rafael de Cárdenas Designs Violet Grey's Jewel-Box East Hampton Boutique
Designer Rafael de Cárdenas has created a jewel-box boutique for Violet Grey in East Hampton, blending sun-washed local character with glamorous design. Working with managing partner Farin Samnani, de Cárdenas conceived the store as a place to linger, featuring custom furnishings by Tennessee metalworker Atelier Artizan, including a bronze makeup table, sculptural shelving, and a patinated bronze director's chair. The shelving, inspired by Diego Giacometti, uses hand-hammered brass and is paired with warm wooden paneling, evoking a library-like curation of beauty products. A custom patina developed with sea salt and water echoes the Atlantic coast. Other highlights include an Art Deco sideboard by Gio Ponti with gold-leaf zodiac motifs, moonlike fiberglass sconces by Blue Green Works, and hand-painted De Gournay wallpaper. The 1,200-square-foot boutique offers about 50 exclusive products and will host events including skincare treatments, founder appearances, and a new Violet Hour series of golden-hour gatherings. Tracy Kline, group president of Violet Grey, emphasized creating a social and personal space. The boutique opened in East Hampton in 2026.
