Quincy Navy Park Opens on Waterfront with Custom Interpretive Design
A new public space, Quincy Navy Park, has been inaugurated in Quincy, Massachusetts, to pay tribute to the city's naval heritage and its veterans. Situated in the Squantum area, this location was once the site of the Victory Destroyer Plant and the Naval Air Station. Created by Halvorson, Tighe & Bond, the park includes a Lone Sailor monument, bronze plaques honoring Quincy Navy veterans, and the original bell from the third USS Quincy. Notable features comprise an interpretive wall shaped like a ship hull, a custom armature for the bell, and specially designed wood bench tops. Richard Houghton remarked that the design captures the site's industrial past, aiming to serve as a reflective and educational destination that weaves history into the community.
