Qing Studio Designs Pavilion for Jingzhou City Wall Archaeological Site, Showcasing a Millennium of History

architecture-design · 2026-10-09

Qing Studio has completed a 330 m² exhibition pavilion at Bastion No. 11 of the Jingzhou City Wall, featuring a fascinating archaeological discovery: a series of walls built across different eras, including the Five Dynasties, Song, Ming, and Qing. Curator 韩爽 (Han Shuang) spearheaded this project, which arose from urgent conservation work that started in 2016 due to issues with foundation settling and structural integrity. The layered walls led to the National Cultural Heritage Administration approving a detailed archaeological excavation. The pavilion is expected to be finished by 2026 and will serve as an exhibition space and a way to adaptively reuse heritage. The design team includes several talented architects, with construction managed by local firms.
