Punk Photography Exhibition Three Chords & Two Cameras Opens at BBA Gallery

The exhibition 'Three Chords & Two Cameras' at BBA Gallery in Berlin brings together photographers Michael Grecco and Per Schorn, whose work spans punk from the 1970s to the present. Grecco's 'Days of Punk' series captures icons like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Billy Idol, and Poison Ivy on and off stage in the 70s and 80s, while Schorn's 'Photo Booth' project features punk and rock musicians from the 90s onward, including Walter Schreifels and NOFX, using high-contrast lighting. The show opened in July 2025 and runs until August 1st. In an interview, Grecco described punk as a musical rebellion in the US and a political one in the UK, noting that the music industry was closed off then. Schorn emphasized punk's timelessness and its evolution into other genres. Both photographers reflected on the difficulty of provoking audiences today, with Grecco citing social media's democratization of music and Schorn noting that punk's shock value has been normalized. Grecco's favorite photograph is of Poison Ivy, rediscovered from his archive. Schorn's project began when Walter from Wizo asked for promo photos. The exhibition highlights the connection between photographer and subject, with Grecco stating that the goal is to capture a moment when someone lets their guard down. Schorn added that punk taught him honesty and community, and both expressed a message of acceptance and resistance to right-wing politics.
