Princeton Exhibition Traces African Ceramic Lineages

The Princeton University Art Museum presents 'Clay Has Memory: Creative Lineages from Africa', an exhibition that examines how ceramic practices preserve cultural inheritance across Africa and its diasporas. Curated by Perrin Lathrop, the show brings together 45 vessels and sculptures by 35 artists, including Adebunmi Gbadebo, Theaster Gates, Magdalene Odundo, Zizipho Poswa, Leilah Babirye, Etiyé Dimma Poulsen, Kwabena Ampofo Anti, Demas Nwoko, and members of the Nala family. The exhibition is organized into four thematic sections: raw material, genealogies of labour, memorial, and monument. It places contemporary artists in dialogue with historical and unnamed makers, highlighting the knowledge embedded in ceramic practice and the overlooked contributions of women. The exhibition runs until July 3, 2027.
