Primrose House: Adaptive Reuse in Kandy by Robust Architecture Workshop

In 2023, the Robust Architecture Workshop, led by Dr. Milinda Pathiraja and Archt. Ganga Rathnayake, rejuvenated a run-down two-bedroom house in Kandy, Sri Lanka, transforming it into a cheerful home. Spanning 196 m², this project, managed by Miwa Negoro, emphasizes adaptive reuse rather than tearing down the old structure, thus extending its lifespan. The design team includes Archt. Sajeewa Mendis and Archt. Sajith Sivayogaraj, with landscape design by Mr. Mudhitha Chaaminda. The construction was carried out by multiple contractors, including Serendip Engineering and Construction (Pvt) Ltd and others. This effort showcases how neglected buildings can be revitalized into significant architectural spaces.
