PriestmanGoode Unveils Day/Dream Transformable Train Concept at InnoTrans 2026

architecture-design · 2026-09-24

PriestmanGoode, a specialist transportation design bureau, has developed the Day/Dream concept, a triple-level train that reconfigures its interiors from day to night across standard, business, and first classes. The design was created in collaboration with material partners Testori, Kydex, and Muirhead, and was unveiled at InnoTrans 2026, Berlin's International Trade Fair for Transport Technology. The concept envisions a well-staffed trans-European service where an onboard hospitality crew transforms carriage layouts, converting open seating into private lockable compartments at night. Materials include 'image-infused thermoplastic' from Kydex, plant-based recyclable fabric from Testori, and BioTan low-carbon leather by Muirhead. The interior is sized to fit existing European rolling stock and aims to move away from the traditional couchette model. According to PriestmanGoode, the lounge serves as the primary social space for all passengers, with tiered privacy but equal experience. Kirsty Dias, managing director, stated that the design draws on aviation interior design disciplines, including space planning and passenger psychology. The concept does not require trackside infrastructure updates or major changes to rolling stock. PriestmanGoode's portfolio includes aviation projects for Finnair, Lufthansa, United, Airbus, and Korean Air, as well as rail work for London's Piccadilly and Elizabeth Lines, Austrian Federal Railways, and VIA Rail in Canada.
