Predrag Djaković Represents Serbia at 2026 Venice Biennale

Serbia will be represented at the 2026 Venice Art Biennale by Predrag Djaković's installation titled 'Through Golgotha to Resurrection.' This work incorporates photographs, personal archives, maps, and administrative documents to examine 20th-century memory, emphasizing its fragmented nature over linear historical accounts. It tackles the global fractures of modernity, highlighting the downfall of ideals such as reason, humanism, and progress amidst violence and ideology. The installation symbolizes a collective experience of disrupted value systems, transcending national boundaries. Suitcases act as a recurring motif for themes of forced mobility—such as deportations, exiles, migrations, and failed returns—creating a 'moving archive.' A piano improvisation in A minor underpins the work, suggesting themes of collapse and potential rebirth. The pavilion is set to open on May 8, 2026, in Venice, Italy.
