Portinari's 'Roda Infantil' to Be Shown at National Museum of China in Beijing

The painting 'Roda Infantil' (1932) by Candido Portinari, from the collection of the Museu FAMA in Itu, Brazil, has been selected for the exhibition 'O Brasil de Portinari' at the National Museum of China in Beijing. Opening June 8, 2026, as part of the Brazil-China Cultural Year 2026, the show is expected to attract around four million visitors. Organized by Projeto Portinari in partnership with the National Museum of China and with museological coordination by Expomus, the exhibition features 60 works by Portinari, a central figure in 20th-century Brazilian art. The initiative highlights cultural diplomacy between the two countries, presenting a panorama of Portinari's themes of childhood, labor, national identity, and social memory. 'Roda Infantil' is an oil on canvas that synthesizes Portinari's interest in Brazilian daily life and memories of his childhood in the interior of São Paulo state. The painting has previously been exhibited at important venues including the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and MASP. The loan underscores the growing relevance of Museu FAMA, founded by businessman, artist, and collector Marcos Amaro. The museum occupies 25,000 square meters in Itu's historic center and holds over 3,500 works by more than 400 Brazilian artists, spanning colonial to contemporary periods. The exhibition runs until October 10, 2026.
