Portes du Soleil Ski Domain Sets Winter 2026-27 Season and Rock the Pistes Festival Return

other · 2026-09-22

The cross-border Portes du Soleil ski domain, linking twelve resorts between France and Switzerland, will open for the 2026-27 winter season from 19 December 2026 to 18 April 2027. Positioned between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, roughly an hour from Geneva, the area groups Abondance, Avoriaz, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d'Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz, Morgins, Saint Jean d'Aulps, Torgon, and Val-d'Illiez – Les Crosets – Champoussin. A single ski pass allows skiers to move between French and Swiss villages without removing skis, using lifts as transport, and the domain is reachable directly by train on the Swiss side via the TPC (AOMC) regional network from Aigle to Champéry, terminating at the foot of the cable car. Terrain ranges from the ungroomed Chavanette black run known as the Swiss Wall, with its 37-degree incline, to the ecological Stash snowpark at Avoriaz, the 1000-metre vertical 100OD circuit from Pas de l'Aigle at Morzine, the Roc d'Enfer loop at Saint Jean d'Aulps, the Lindarets hamlet at Montriond, and the Grand Cry sector at Les Gets. The itinerant altitude festival Rock the Pistes, described as Europe's only such event, returns from 14 to 21 March 2027, with ephemeral stages above 1500 metres across the domain; concerts are accessible on skis with a lift pass or by lift for pedestrians.
