architecture-design · 2026-09-29

Populous has revealed its architectural plans for the Rach Chiec Stadium, set to become Vietnam's national stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, which will exceed the seating capacity of Mỹ Đình National Stadium by around 30,000 seats. Situated within the expansive 200-hectare Rach Chiec National Sports Complex, the stadium will showcase a diamond-patterned exterior inspired by Nipa Palms and will include a fully retractable roof to manage environmental conditions and minimize noise. It is designed to accommodate team sports and "90 percent of Olympic sports," aiming to improve Vietnam's infrastructure for major events such as the Southeast Asian Games and Asian Cup. Andrew Tulen, a senior principal at Populous, highlighted the design's focus on accessibility and adaptability. The firm is also engaged in multiple stadium projects worldwide.
