Pompeo Batoni's Minerva Painting Debuts at Palazzo Cini in Venice
A new artwork by 18th-century painter Pompeo Girolamo Batoni (1708–1787) has been unveiled as the latest 'Guest' at Palazzo Cini in Venice, representing the inaugural partnership between Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Fondazione Centro delle Arti in Lucca. The piece, titled 'Minerva infonde l’anima alla figura umana modellata in creta da Prometeo,' illustrates Minerva animating the clay figure created by Prometheus. Commissioned for Marquis Lodovico Sardini, it was painted between 1740 and 1743 and has recently been acquired by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca. Visitors can view the painting until September 27. The Centro delle Arti Lucca is set to launch its permanent site in 2029 at the former Ospedale di San Luca, with the exhibition introduced by Paolo Bolpagni, Renata Codello, Maria Pia Mencacci, and Luca Massimo Barbero.
