Plutarco Designs Grab Sandwich Shop in Madrid with Bold Orange Branding

In Madrid, culinary entrepreneurs Madeleine Martin and Emerik Minost identified a gap in the city's dining scene for a modern sandwich shop and launched Grab, a lunch spot that combines the charm of old-school deli counters with a contemporary interior. Local firm Plutarco, known for handling both architecture and branding projects, was hired to develop the visual and spatial identities simultaneously. The bright orange of Grab's logo is consistently applied throughout the project, from the exterior awning and bench seating to interior painted columns and beams framing the central counter. The design embraces playful juxtapositions: wood paneling recalls traditional Spanish taverns, while stainless-steel tables and stools add an industrial edge. The back butcher's kitchen is separated by PVC strip curtains, unexpectedly in acid yellow. Graphic tiles feature prominently, with checkerboard flooring in the main area and a psychedelic pattern of glazed ceramic Palet tiles behind the meat slicer and espresso machine. The staircase risers leading to a second-floor office each feature a different marble. Back shelves in orange display stacks of sandwich boxes that echo the geometric tiling, extending the brand experience to takeout customers. Plutarco's cohesive approach ensures that Grab's interior and branding work together harmoniously, proving that even sandwich shops can benefit from bold design experimentation.
