Plastique Fantastique's Inflatable Serpent Takes Over the High Line

The Berlin-based artistic team Plastique Fantastique, consisting of Marco Canevacci and Yena Young, has unveiled "auroBOROS—Urban Memory and Collective Dream," a large inflatable sculpture that resembles a massive serpent. Positioned above Little West 12th Street in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, this installation will remain on display until September 20, aligning with New York Fashion Week. The piece abstractly reflects Bulgari's serpent theme and emits a hissing sound from air pumps. Its name merges "aurum" (meaning gold) with "ouroboros" (a symbol of a serpent). Unlike standard installations, "auroBOROS" stretches across the park, with its head extending over a railing and its tail attached to The Standard Hotel. Reactions from visitors have been largely favorable, though some expressed concerns regarding its color and obstruction of pathways.
