Pieroni-Stiefelmeier Collection Debuts at Villa Pacchiani

The exhibition 'Genealogia del contemporaneo' at Villa Pacchiani in Santa Croce sull'Arno presents the Pieroni-Stiefelmeier collection for the first time in the Pisan province, an area tied to the leather tanning industry. The collection, assembled by gallerists Mario Pieroni and Dora Stiefelmeier since 1979, includes works by international artists such as Jannis Kounellis, Jimmie Durham, Sol LeWitt, Vito Acconci, Joseph Kosuth, Giulio Paolini, Luigi Ontani, Remo Salvadori, Marco Bagnoli, and Miroslaw Balka. The display is deliberately non-chronological, emphasizing conceptual and perceptual connections. Key works include Kounellis/Durham's 'Deposizione' (2006), Bagnoli's 'Voce' (1995), and Kosuth's 'How did I get here? I exclaimed' (2010). The collection was acquired by the MAXXI Archives in Rome and has been previously accessible only to researchers. Curated by Alessandro Cocchieri, the show runs until September 27, 2026, at Villa Pacchiani.
