PHTAA Designs Rice Bran Oil Refinery in Khok Duea

PHTAA has completed the LPP Rice Bran Oil Refinery in Khok Duea, Thailand, a 5,000 m² industrial building designed to respond to the site's challenging environmental conditions. The project, curated by Miwa Negoro, was led by principal architect Ponwit Rattanatanatevilai, with Sittavee loyd as team leader and Itsaranuwat sasai on the design team. Rather than employing sophisticated technologies, the design draws from an understanding of the site's real conditions: strong winds, heavy rain, severe solar radiation, and the constant presence of birds in an open agricultural landscape. These environmental challenges shaped the building's envelope, resulting in a high-performance industrial structure assembled from common materials and simple construction systems. The project is categorized as industrial architecture and is documented by photographer Kukkong Thirathomrongkiat. The refinery is slated for completion in 2026.
