Photographers Francesco Russo and Luca Piffaretti Document Over 40 Contemporary Architectural Works Across Ecuador

From 2023 to 2024, photographers Francesco Russo and Luca Piffaretti undertook a comprehensive photographic documentation project across Ecuador. Their work captures more than 40 contemporary architectural projects by recognized local practices. The archive explores Ecuador's evolving identity through its architecture, examining relationships with natural environments, urban conditions, and social contexts. Featured architectural firms include Al Borde, Durán & Hermida, Emilio López, José María Sáez, La Cabina de la Curiosidad, MCM+A, Natura Futura, and RAMA Estudio. The photographers traveled extensively, documenting architecture and landscapes along Ecuador's coast, through the Andes mountains, into the Amazon rainforest, and across the Galápagos Islands. Major cities documented include Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca. The selection demonstrates how architecture creates quality spaces responding to contemporary demands for sustainability and environmental responsibility. Projects combine creativity and technology with renewable resources, addressing economic, climatic, and political challenges in Latin America. One highlighted project is the Mirador de Cristal in Quilotoa, completed in 2013 by Daniel Moreno Flores, Javier Mera Luna, and Jorge Javier Andrade Benítez. The photographic documentation serves as an archive of contemporary Ecuadorian architectural achievement.
