Photographer Brian McCarty Documents Children's War Experiences Through Toy Photography in Conflict Zones

Photographer Brian McCarty visits war zones and refugee camps to create visual narratives based on children's drawings and experiences. His project, WAR TOYS, translates children's accounts of conflict into photographs using toys as subjects. One example from 2012 in the Northern Gaza Strip features a scene called "Gaza Cinderella" based on a child's drawing filled with military imagery. The work aims to communicate children's perspectives when verbal expression is insufficient. This approach provides insight into how young people process trauma in areas affected by violence.
