Phong Bui's Artistic Practice as Meditative Process

Phong H. Bui, an artist and cultural figure, integrates meditation into his creative work. Born in Huế, Vietnam in 1964, he immigrated to the United States with his family. Bui serves as co-founder, publisher, and artistic director of The Brooklyn Rail, a monthly publication covering interviews, exhibition reviews, and cultural commentary. He contributes a monthly editorial addressing political and global issues. Bui has curated more than 100 exhibitions and creates pencil portraits featured in The Rail. His artwork includes a 2025 piece titled 'Meditation Drawing,' measuring 16 1/2 by 12 3/4 inches, executed in pencil on paper.
