Phoebe Shuman-Goodier's 'Bad Dogs' Series Transforms Family Hoarding into Collaborative Art

Phoebe Shuman-Goodier's decade-long project, 'Bad Dogs,' represents a collaboration with her father, transforming remnants from his hoarding into temporary sculptures. Initiated when she was eleven, following her parents' divorce, the endeavor seeks to explore their family narrative. Utilizing materials from their Rhode Island home, including more than thirty vehicles, she creates life-size still lifes that are captured through photography. Shuman-Goodier earned her MFA from the University of Texas at Austin and her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has exhibited her work at Bond Millen Gallery and Woods-Gerry Gallery. Currently, she oversees the Photo & Media Arts Lab at St. Edward's University and teaches at the University of Texas at Austin, while also working on new projects in West Texas.
