Peter Chang Archive Gifted to Glasgow as Retrospective Opens at Lyon & Turnbull
Glasgow is set to receive the collection of jewellery artist Peter Chang (1944–2017), who was largely overlooked during his lifetime. Originally from Liverpool, Chang attended Liverpool College of Art before relocating to Paris in 1967 to pursue printmaking. In the late 1980s, he shifted his focus to jewellery, crafting vibrant, oversized pieces from recycled materials. His creations, inspired by surrealism and mythology, include the Giant Lizard Banquet Table, which is part of the British Council's collection. Chang was awarded both the Hofmann Prize and the Jerwood Prize for Applied Arts. His works are featured in institutions like the V&A and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition 'The Magical World of Peter Chang' will be showcased at Lyon & Turnbull until 19 September and at Kelvingrove in December.
