Perkins&Will's 580 Dubuque: Copper-Colored Aluminum and Art in San Francisco
Perkins&Will has finalized the construction of 580 Dubuque, marking IQHQ's inaugural biotech campus situated in San Francisco along Highway 101. Drawing inspiration from the marina and regional architecture, the design revitalizes South San Francisco's industrial sector into speculative tech laboratories. The building's exterior showcases copper-hued, micro-perforated aluminum fins, reflecting the character of historic structures and original railroad tracks. Beveled aluminum panels offer dynamic vistas, enhanced by a mica shimmer. Design director Ryan Bussard highlighted the affordability of aluminum. A recessed fourth floor provides a terrace and improved sightlines, while the northeastern corner offers wind protection. Featured artworks include 'Fractalism' by Giles Miller Studio and 'Outward Entrance' by Nathan Richard Phelps. The project team comprises Magnusson Klemencic Associates, AGA, and McCarthy Building Companies.
