Pericle Guaglianone, Artribune columnist and Rome art scene fixture, dies at 54

Pericle Guaglianone, a prominent art critic and columnist for Artribune, died at age 54 on Sunday afternoon after suffering a heart attack while swimming at Torvaianica beach near Rome. He was also a long-serving employee of the Ministry of the Interior's Department of Public Security, working as a traffic police officer. Guaglianone studied art history with a specialization in contemporary art and was known for his sharp wit, aphorisms, and deep knowledge of Rome's art scene. He collaborated with Artribune since 2004, writing incisive articles and mentoring young journalists. He also ran a weather forecast column for art fairs and biennials. His death was first reported by local news outlet Canale Dieci. Artribune editor Massimiliano Tonelli wrote a tribute, noting Guaglianone's generosity and influence on Italian contemporary art over the past 25 years. He is survived by his sister and nieces.
