Pendleton and Tàpies Converge in Naples Exhibition

Alfonso Artiaco gallery in Naples presents a dual exhibition pairing American artist Adam Pendleton (b. 1984) with postwar Catalan master Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012). The show, on view through June 20, 2026, explores affinities in abstraction, materiality, and gesture across generations. Pendleton, known for his "Black Dada" framework, selected works that emphasize rhythm, surface, and fragmentation. Tàpies's estate, represented by his son Antoni Tàpies Barba and Natasha Hébert, contributed pieces highlighting themes of democracy, war, and nature. The exhibition avoids direct comparison, instead fostering an open dialogue between two distinct sensibilities. Pendleton noted that Tàpies's use of language and sign as architectural elements resonated with his own practice. The show includes Pendleton's recent painting "Untitled (Days)" (2025) and Tàpies's "Descompost" (1996).
