Pedro Pitarch's multifunctional brushed aluminum unit transforms a small Madrid apartment

Architect and musician Pedro Pitarch has designed a multifunctional brushed aluminum furniture piece for a small apartment in Madrid's historic Malasaña district. The purely geometric architectural device creates two distinct environments: on one side, a kitchen with a circular island that serves as a cooktop, storage, and dining table; on the other, a bedroom with a wardrobe featuring hinged doors. Sliding doors protect the room and kitchen, revealing shelving when closed. A perforated acoustic ceiling incorporates recessed lighting adjustable to the needs of the space below. Born in 1989, Pitarch founded his studio in 2015, focusing on interrelations between society, contemporary culture, and media. He has won numerous international competitions, exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennales of 2018 and 2021, and published in major European trade magazines. He also teaches at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and lectures at American, European, and Australian universities.
