Paweł Grunert's Wicker Chairs Take Over OBJEKT Gallery

The exhibition 'After I'm Gone, I'll Return in the Form of a Chair' at Warsaw's OBJEKT Gallery showcases the late Polish designer Paweł Grunert's visionary wicker furniture. Curated by Aleksandra Krasny, the show runs from May 20 to July 17, 2026, featuring historical works and three final pieces completed during Grunert's last months. Grunert, a pioneer of Poland's art furniture movement, treated wicker not as a weaving material but as a living, unruly matter, often combining it with steel. His chairs appear to grow organically, reflecting his fascination with freedom and entropy. The exhibition title came from a phrase Grunert wrote in an email. Despite his illness, he set up a studio in the hospital to oversee the final works.
