Paula García-Masedo's 'Gran ritme' at Canónica de Santa Maria de Vilabertran

The project 'Gran ritme' by Paula García-Masedo is currently on display at Canónica de Santa Maria de Vilabertran, with the exhibition scheduled to continue until February 7, 2027. This initiative is part of Bòlit's 'Llegats en potència' program, curated by Oriol Fontdevila, and delves into the culture of esparto grass and the craft of manual rope-making, emphasizing materiality and changes in the territory. Collaborating with the esparto community from Villarejo de Salvanés, one of the last groups in Spain to maintain this tradition, García-Masedo contrasts traditional braiding techniques with minimalist styles, highlighting the relationship between humans and their environment. A public program on October 17, supported by a Beca Leonardo from Fundación BBVA, will include art historian Julia Ramírez-Blanco and a workshop led by artisans from Villarejo. 'Gran ritme' marks the beginning of a cycle featuring various artists exploring heritage issues in Girona, running from 2026 to 2027.
