Paul Poiret Retrospective at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris

From June 25, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris will present the inaugural exhibition dedicated exclusively to the French fashion designer Paul Poiret (1879-1944). Entitled "La mode est une fête" ("fashion is a feast"), this showcase emphasizes Poiret's groundbreaking creations and his expertise in marketing and publicity during the early 20th century. Renowned for his extravagant parties that promoted his designs, Poiret's most innovative years stretched from the Belle Époque through the 1920s. Among the displayed items is a circa 1910 evening coat crafted from Gros de Tours, adorned with gold thread, silver-plated brocade, taffeta, and metallic trimmings. Poiret was a pioneer in branching out from haute couture into fragrances, footwear, and accessories, preceding fashion houses like Dior.
