Patrick Jouin and Sèvres Manufacture Unveil Porcelain Petals Lighting at Paris Design Week

exhibition · 2026-09-20

In a notable collaboration with the Manufacture de Sèvres, Patrick Jouin has designed Petals, a lighting piece crafted from biscuit porcelain and brass. This creation will be exhibited at the Galerie de Sèvres in Paris from September 11 to October 3, 2026, coinciding with Paris Design Week. This initiative continues Sèvres' legacy of working with designers. Born in 1967 and an alumnus of ENSCI, Jouin has previously collaborated with Philippe Starck and currently heads Patrick Jouin iD. Each Petal is individually cast, and a bespoke brass fixation system was engineered for its assembly. The fixture, which comes in one, two, or three light options, casts a warm glow that highlights the porcelain's texture and flaws, while also delving into the concept of 'informe form.' Jouin's work was previously showcased in a 2009 exhibition at the Centre Pompidou.

Key facts

  • Petals is a lighting fixture made of biscuit porcelain and brass, created by Patrick Jouin with the Manufacture de Sèvres.
  • The exhibition runs from September 11 to October 3, 2026, at the Galerie de Sèvres, 4 place André Malraux, 75001 Paris, during Paris Design Week.
  • Sèvres has a long history of designer collaborations since the 1960s, including Ettore Sottsass, Pierre Charpin, the Bouroullec brothers, and Matali Crasset.

  • Each Petal is cast in a single uninterrupted gesture into one mold, but variations in paste, kiln firing, and demolding cause deformation, making each piece unique.
  • A custom brass fixation system with ball bearings acting like ball joints was developed to assemble the asymmetric porcelain elements, based on an idea by Jouin's father and executed by artisan Louis.
  • The fixture is produced in a very limited series of about ten pieces and is available in one, two, or three lights.
  • Jouin's studio and career were the subject of a monographic exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2009.
