Paris in May 1970: A Photographic Time Capsule
At the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, a new exhibition presents photographs capturing the essence of Paris in May 1970, under the curation of Juliette Eyméoud. Drawn from municipal archives, the majority of the collection consists of black-and-white images due to budget limitations. Among the notable features are a pétanque match, a café located on the Champs-Élysées, views from the 18th arrondissement, the Lycée Sophie Germain, and a man at Dupleix metro station with graffiti stating 'resist the increase.' Additionally, scenes include a Total petrol station, newlyweds at the Eiffel Tower, children at play, and a poster for the 1970 film L'Aveu. Eyméoud seeks to reshape the perception of the 1970s as vibrant, highlighting its parallels with the 1960s.
