Paola Lombardi and Cinzia Grana Restore Carlo Scarpa's Villa Filomarino Pavilion with Platek Lighting

Design duo Paola Lombardi and Cinzia Grana, recently honored with the Təməl Architecture Award 2025 by the Republic of Azerbaijan, completed a meticulous restoration of Carlo Scarpa's 1960s pavilion at Villa Filomarino in Rome. The project, featured in C41 Magazine Issue 19, involved removing incongruous stratifications that had silenced the spatial intensity of the twin-circle geometry and suspended concrete pillars. A key collaboration with lighting company Platek introduced a nocturnal dimension that reveals the texture of raw concrete and the three-dimensional staircase without overpowering the architecture. The garden was replanted with ivy and citrus plants to respect the historic Roman garden tradition. The pavilion, once a hidden fragment behind Via Salaria, now opens to a wider audience through narrative work with IDNTT and RealLife Television, transforming from a private refuge into a shared heritage.
