Panthéon Honors Historian Marc Bloch with Immersive Exhibition

The Panthéon in Paris presents "Marc Bloch, l'esprit de l'Histoire," the first exhibition dedicated to historian Marc Bloch, who enters the Panthéon as the first historian. The show, organized with the Association des Professeurs d'Histoire et de Géographie, features documents, books, photographs, and objects from the Archives Nationales, the Service Historique de la Défense, and the Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation. It is structured chronologically and thematically into three sections: "La formation d'un esprit libre et critique," "Le combattant" (covering his service in WWI and the Resistance in Lyon during WWII), and "L'historien" (author of Les Rois Thaumaturges and L'Étrange défaite). Bloch, a Jewish Alsatian scholar, was arrested and executed by the Gestapo in 1944. The exhibition runs from June 25 to January 10 in the crypt of the Panthéon, a neoclassical temple inspired by the Roman Pantheon, built from 1757, and dedicated to the memory of Great Men since the French Revolution. Concurrently, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux offers events through December 31 at venues including the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française, the Abbaye de Montmajour, the Musée Archéologique d'Ensérune, and the Fort Saint-André in Villeneuve-lez-Avignon.
