Palestinian Artist Sliman Mansour Dies at 79, Leaving Legacy of Resistance

On Monday, August 24, Sliman Mansour, a prominent figure in Palestinian art, passed away at the age of 79. His funeral took place on Wednesday, August 26, at the Anglican Church in Birzeit, located in the West Bank. The A.M. Qattan Foundation highlighted the deep connection between his artwork and the Palestinian narrative. Born in Birzeit in 1947, Mansour pursued his studies at Bezalel Academy following the 1967 conflict. He was a co-founder of the League of Palestinian Artists in 1973 and later established the New Visions group in 1987, along with the al-Wasiti Art Center in 1994. In 2024, he created a mural for the Palestinian Museum and was honored with the Unesco-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture in 2019. A tribute event occurred at the Palestinian Museum on Thursday, August 27.
