Palestinian Artist Sliman Mansour Dies at 79 in Jerusalem

On 24 August 2023, the esteemed Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour died in Jerusalem at the age of 79. Born in 1947 in Birzeit, Palestine, he pursued Fine Art at the Bezalel Art Academy and played a pivotal role in establishing the contemporary Palestinian art movement. His notable piece, 'Camel of Hardship' (1973), represents the Palestinian struggle. During the first Intifada in 1989, he opted to boycott Israeli art supplies, instead utilizing local materials. His artwork later featured olive trees and landscapes. In the 1980s, Mansour headed the League of Palestinian Artists, co-founded the International Academy of Art Palestine, and taught at Al-Quds University from 2000 to 2014. He earned many accolades, and his pieces are housed in collections worldwide.
