Palestine Uprooted exhibition opens at Canadian Museum for Human Rights despite opposition

On June 27, 2026, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg will unveil 'Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present,' amidst pushback from certain Jewish community members, legal threats from an Israeli organization, and the departure of the museum's sole Jewish board member. Curated by Isabelle Masson, this exhibition highlights the Nakba—the 1948 expulsion of Palestinians—and showcases the endurance of Palestinian culture. Featured items include poetry by Mahmoud Darwish, a Gazan thobe, family home keys, a citrus wrapper from Wadi Hunayn, and Rajie Cook's 2002 sculpture 'Curfews and Closures.' Contemporary pieces like Malak Mattar's 'Bound Together in Gaza' (2020) and video interviews with Palestinian Canadians will also be presented. The exhibition is set to continue until November 30, 2028.
