Our Child Exhibition Explores Parenting, Gender, and Social Norms Through Contemporary Art

The NEWEAST exhibition, called 'Our Child,' showcases the talents of 18 artists, such as Karolina Balcer, Lucia Dovičáková, and Aneta Grzeszykowska, among others. Curated by Jitka Hlaváčková, Zuzana Štefková, and Eliza Urwanowicz-Rojecka, this exhibit delves into how children fit into both personal lives and broader societal contexts, including parenting and institutional beliefs. It uses critical feminist perspectives to highlight how parenting and education can reinforce societal norms and stereotypes, covering topics from conception to adulthood, such as reproductive rights and caregiving. The exhibition also looks at the relationships between artist parents and their kids, plus the involvement of children in the art world.
