Open Care and Museo Poldi Pezzoli Bring Live Restoration to Homo Faber's "An Atelier Alive"
At Homo Faber's "An Island of Light," the section titled "An Atelier Alive" showcases eight artisan stations, featuring the restoration team from Open Care. Attendees have the opportunity to watch restorers as they work on masterpieces usually kept behind museum glass. Alessandra Quarto, the director of Milan's Museo Poldi Pezzoli, partnered with Open Care to present live restoration of two pieces from the Milanese collection. One of these is Giovanni Paolo Panini's "Vocazione di san Matteo," restored with the assistance of Jaeger-LeCoultre. Additionally, the restoration of an exquisite cabinet made of ivory, ebony, lapis lazuli, and gilded bronze, supported by Galleria Carlo Orsi, demonstrates conservation techniques. Open Care provides extensive services for artworks, while Museo Poldi Pezzoli, established in 1881, is a significant house-museum in Italy.
