Onno Theelen's Playful Ceramics at Purmerends Museum

The Purmerends Museum presents 'Onno Theelens vreemde snuiters', a solo exhibition of ceramic works by Onno Theelen (b. 1996). Theelen uses contemporary ceramics to depict animals with a mocking undertone and subtle references to classical myths. The museum has placed some sculptures in the permanent collection's display cases, juxtaposing them with early 20th-century ceramics to highlight contrasts in form and decoration. Notable works include 'Nero met kikkers' (ca. 2024), a bust of the Roman emperor with three frogs on his head, referencing a myth where Nero becomes pregnant with a frog.
