OM System Unveils Splashproof 14-42mm Kit Lens with Closer Focus

OM Digital Solutions has introduced the M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 III, an updated standard zoom lens designed for its OM System PEN cameras. This lens provides a focal length equivalent to 28-84mm in 35mm terms. Notable enhancements include a splash-proof and dust-proof design rated at IPX1, akin to the recently launched 17mm f/1.8 II and 25mm f/1.8 II primes. The minimum focus distance has improved from 25 cm to 13 cm, allowing for a maximum magnification of 0.26x (0.53x in 35mm). Weighing 125 grams and measuring 50.5 mm long, it features an eight-element, seven-group optical layout with three aspherical elements and accepts 46mm filters. Priced at $349.99 in the US and $499.99 in Canada, it will be available in late October, replacing the discontinued Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II. Additionally, it will be sold in two kits with the OM System PEN: one for $1,099.99 with just the lens, and another for $1,299.99 that includes the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 R telephoto zoom. The announcement coincided with the launch of the new OM System PEN camera.
