OM System Teases New Pen Camera Launch on September 9

OM System has released a 17-second teaser video across its Japanese social networks, hinting at a new camera in the Pen series, scheduled for announcement on September 9. The video traces the lineage of the Pen system from its 1959 origins with the original half-frame film camera to a silhouetted 2026 iteration. The original Pen was the first half-frame camera produced in Japan, noted for its compact size, and was followed by numerous models including the Pen S, D, EE, Wide, EM, F, FT, and FV series. The Pen name transitioned to digital with the Digital Pen in 2009, and the most celebrated modern model is the digital Pen F from 2016, praised for its compact design. After OM System spun off from Olympus, it continued the Pen line, but the last model, the E-P7, was never released in the US. Enthusiasts have long urged OM System to revive the Pen line, and in March, at the CP+ show in Japan, company executives told PetaPixel they were considering development opportunities for the Pen. The teaser suggests a new Pen camera or a spiritual successor is imminent.
