Olivier-Winning Musical The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to Make Australian Premiere in 2027

In July 2027, the acclaimed musical The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which won Olivier Awards, will make its debut in Australia at the Sydney Opera House, courtesy of GMG Productions and Stoddart Entertainment Group. The Australasian tour will kick off in May 2027 in New Zealand, featuring performances in Wellington, Christchurch, and Auckland before heading to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. This production marks the musical's first performances outside of London and New York. Adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1922 short story, it tells the tale of a man who ages backward, transitioning from 1800s Baltimore to a Cornish fishing village. Created by Jethro Compton and Darren Clark, it garnered three Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best New Musical. Compton expressed enthusiasm for the Australian premiere, highlighting the Sydney Opera House's maritime connection. Harry Prouse, Head of Contemporary Performance at the venue, called the show heartwarming and uplifting. Details regarding the cast and ticket sales for the Australasian tour will be announced later, with updates available at benjaminbuttonmusical.com.au.
