Oleg Oprisco: Surreal Analog Photography from Lviv to Kyiv

artist · 2026-10-09

Born in Lviv in 1988, Ukrainian photographer Oleg Oprisco has built a reputation for surreal, highly evocative imagery produced almost entirely with analog medium-format cameras. His compositions place solitary figures, oversized objects, and natural elements into scenes that hover between reality and imagination, distinguished by delicate colors, melancholic moods, and an aesthetic rooted in dream and fairy tale. A defining feature of his practice is its slow, controlled process: Oprisco shoots with a Kiev 6C and a Pentax 645, personally oversees every detail of his sets — from clothing to props — and keeps post-production intervention to a minimum. He first encountered photography at sixteen, moved to Kyiv at eighteen, and worked there as an assistant in advertising photography. His work has been shown internationally, and he currently lives and works in Kyiv.
