OH HO Residence: A Stone Ode to South Indian Temple Ephemerality
The OH HO Residence, crafted by Play Architecture and completed in 2023, offers a contemporary twist on chapdi stone in Bangalore. Covering 175 m², this home, led by Miwa Negoro, draws inspiration from the enchanting beauty of South Indian temples, where dusk seems to make the stone disappear. Photographers Archana Vikram from studio f8 and Senthil Kumar Doss showcased the unique aesthetic and structural potential of chapdi, a natural stone slab that's 100mm thick. The design team, guided by Devendra Kumar and including Harish Thirugnanam, Joshin Rose, and others, collaborated with Manjunath & Co for structural consulting and various specialists for construction and landscaping. Overall, it’s a creative exploration of materiality, aiming to elevate chapdi’s role in modern design.
