Obama Presidential Center Unveiled in Chicago by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects

The long-awaited Obama Presidential Center, designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, has been unveiled in Chicago. The complex features a monumental 69-metre granite-clad tower surrounded by low-level buildings topped with artificial hills. A viewing area enclosed by giant letters sits at the tower's peak. The center honors former US president Barack Obama. To mark its opening, Dezeen rounded up the other 13 US presidential libraries, including buildings by Gordon Bunshaft, IM Pei, and RAMSA. In other architecture news, the 25th Serpentine Pavilion by Mexican studio Lanza Atelier opened in London, the first brick-built pavilion in the series. Lego launched its largest-ever set, a 12,060-piece model of Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, commemorating the centenary of Gaudí's death. Swedish designer Gustaf Westman created the Chunky Cat Tree, adding to his Chunky collection. Popular projects this week included a pixelated skyscraper in Brazil by FGMF Arquitetos, a Ferrari-designed laptop, and a Malaysian guesthouse by Eleena Jamil with a bamboo and steel canopy.
