Nuria Mora transforms Casal Solleric into a submarine wreck site

Nuria Mora's site-specific intervention 'Había en el fondo del mar' colonizes Casal Solleric in Palma, turning the building into an underwater scenario with three installations: one in the interior courtyard and two on the façade (loggia and showcase). The project is part of Biennal B, a transversal program by Es Baluard Museu that integrates contemporary art with craftsmanship, science, and design for sustainable transformation of the Balearic Islands. Mora uses the concept of a shipwreck (pecio) as a metaphor for family genealogy, linking the architecture to the urban public space and the nearby sea. The installations allude to the sea as present and memory, and the wreck as a time capsule. The project collaborates with Gerreria Pere Coll from Pòrtol, connecting the city with the sea, coinciding with the extraction of a wreck discovered in Ses Fontanelles, Palma Bay, considered one of the most relevant underwater finds in the Mediterranean. Curated by Pilar Rubí, the exhibition runs until September 6, 2026.
